In the last article on this series, the focus was on suitable locations and site for Soilless Farming, biological and environmental benefits of Soilless Farming over traditional farming on the open fields.

This article will dwell on the advantages of Soilless Farming over traditional farming systems in factors like Water Requirements, Labor/Manpower Requirements and Health Hazards.

Water Requirements

Even though the primary source of nutrition to the crops is from water, Soilless Farming still uses about 90% less water compared to the traditional soil farming. This is made possible because the Soilless farm structure is set up in a way that only the initial water supply is recycled from transplanting to when the crops are ready for harvest, compared to the traditional soil farming that requires large volume of water for the soil to moist enough for the crops nutrients, depending on the type of crops.

Labor/Manpower Requirements

With Soilless Farming, Digging, weeding, watering are not part of the farming activities which reduces the stress and cost to the farmer as compared to the regular manual or mechanized labor activities required for traditional soil farming and are usually a significant cost of labor to the farmer.

Health Hazards

Since Soilless Farming only uses organic manure from natural sources like coconut shell, rice chaff etc, that are processed and dissolved into the water to form liquid nutrients solution for the crops, it creates a healthy environment for both the crops and the farmer. This is different from the traditional farming on the open soil that requires the use of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers and some can be harmful chemicals that can affect both the biological environment and health of the farmer.
